Poetry Corner: “A Longing for Summer”

Poetry Corner: A Longing for Summer

As the cold rain pours down

I close my eyes and sit down

In my mind I go to a place

With warm sun hitting my face

A salty smell in the air

The seaweed and water in my hair

The soothing sound of waves crashing

And the voices of little children laughing

The ice pops are the very best treat

On hot days when you want something sweet

Spending time with a friend

On days that seem to never end

But as the blaring thunder booms

I snap right back to my room

Even though right now the sky is gray

I just can’t wait for that first summer day
