That’s A Wrap: The Year In Review

Thats A Wrap: The Year In Review
Perrone, Sara

It’s truly hard to believe that 2023 is coming to an end. Although so much happened It seems like it began just yesterday! Before we put 2023 behind us let’s look back on everything this year had to offer from the good bad and everything in between.

The Tops of 2023:

Top Song: Miley Cyrus’s “Flowers” was the top hit of 2023. The song had a total of 1.16 billion streams world wide and was at the top of the billboard top 100 for 8 weeks! The catchy break-up anthem had everyone singing along bobbing their heads all throughout 2023.

Top Artist: Her Eras Tour broke countless records, including being the first tour to gross over $1 billion. Taylor Swift has proved herself to be not only the queen of the music industry but a clever business woman. After re-recording and re-releasing her albums “Speak Now” and “1989″ fans were able to enjoy their favorites all over again.

Top New TV Show: The Max original, The Last of Us, was a 2023 fan-favorite. The TV show follows an American family living in a post-apocalyptic world.  In total the show had a total of 82 million viewers and still has fans waiting on the edge of their seats for season 2.

Top Actor: The talented Brendan Fraser won the best actor of the 2023 Grammy’s. The 55 year old proved his worthiness in his astonishing performance in The Whale.

Top Actress: At this year’s Grammys, Michelle Yeoh was awarded with the best actress of 2023. At 61 the actress captivated viewers with her performance in the movie “Everything Everywhere all at once.”

Top Movie: This one is pretty obvious…this summer there was a complete Barbie takeover. Barbie had everyone singing “I’m just Ken” and made pink the new black. With the classic characters, A-list cast, and light hearted story, this was a true summer blockbuster.

The Ups and Downs:

  • The Chiefs beat the Eagles 38-35 at Super Bowl LVll.
  • The OceanGate underwater vessel mysteriously imploded with 5 passengers aboard.
  • We said goodbye to Twitter and hello to “X.”
  • Space X’s Rocket launched… but then exploded 4 minutes into the flight.
  • The Texas Rangers were the champions of the 2023 World Series.
  • AI (Artificial Intelligence) made its questionable debut.
  • America saw its deadliest wildfire in more than a century.
  • Spain won the 2023 Women’s World Cup.
  • The Jets finally got the quarterback they deserved… too bad it only lasted 3 plays.
  • The Class of 2023 took home the cup at the 87th annual Rock Rivalry with their entrance “Chaos is Coming to Town.”
  • With every year comes the passing of some of our favorite celebrities, some of which include…
    • Mathew Perry (August 19th, 1969- October 28th, 2023)
    • Tony Bennet (August 3rd, 1926- July 21st, 2023)
    • Jimmy Buffet (December 25th, 1946- September 1st, 2023)
    • Tina Turner (November 26th, 1939- May 24th, 2023)
    • Lisa Marie Presley (February 1st, 1968- January 12th 2023)

In my opinion, here are a few things that we should keep and others that I think we should leave in 2023.

Keep

Uggs: Cozy, soft, and stylish, What more could you ask for?

Optimism: Let’s keep that glass half full this year 🙂

Mid-Rise Jeans: Not too high, not too low… mid-rise is just right.

Organization: What a great way to start the new year!

Dupes: Getting the same quality at a lower price is the best purchase ever!

Getting Up Early: It may be exhausting for the first few minutes, but in my opinion early=efficiency.

Leave Behind

Crocs: They have had their run… again, but I’m sorry I think it is time to say goodbye.

Procrastination: Let’s leave behind putting things aside.

High Rise Jeans: Similar to crocs, I think it is time to make high rise jeans a thing of the past.

Disorganization: Let’s make 2024 a fresh start!

Overpriced ANYTHING: Let’s save some mula this new year!

Sleeping late: Let’s stop using that snooze button and get the day started!

As we ring in 2024 I wish everyone a happy and healthy new year!
