With Halloween right around the corner, it is time for everyone to figure out what their costumes will be. Although we all try to be unique, every year the same couple of costumes seem to be extra popular. Of course, there is always the classic pirate or witch costumes, but every year there are costumes that are even more popular that follow the trends in pop culture.

Here are my 2023 popular Halloween costume predictions:

Barbie

As we all know, a new Barbie movie came out in July and broke box offices across the globe. Everywhere you went, you saw either a poster advertising the movie or pink Barbie merchandise being sold. Now that everyone has all their Barbie paraphernalia waiting to be worn again, I’m sure many will use Halloween as an excuse to dress up and be Barbie for the day.

Taylor Swift

People young, old, and anything in between have heard about Taylor Swift in some context within the last couple of months. Going on a world tour, publicly dating football player Travis Kelce, and coming out with a movie caused her to become more popular than ever. Taylor Swift fans (aka “Swifties”) are already known to have creative outfits, attending her concerts dressing as a certain album of hers, so let’s see what they can come up with for Halloween.

Wednesday Addams

The Addams Family has been popular since the 60’s when the show originated, but it has recently become more popular with the creation of the Netflix show Wednesday. With her already being a dark, mysterious character, this makes her the perfect person to dress up as for Halloween. 

Ariel 

Princesses are always a go to costume, especially amongst children, but with the creation of the live action Little Mermaid movie, I’m sure Ariel will be extra popular this Halloween.

Spiderman 

Superheroes are also a known go to costume for people of all ages. With Spider-man: Across the Spider-Verse coming out only a few months ago, I have a feeling that we will be seeing Spiderman more than usual this year.

Jigsaw from Saw X

Scary movie characters such as Pennywise, Freddy Krueger, and Michael Myers are always classic costumes you will see on Halloween. With the new Saw X movie that came out less than a month ago, I’m sure the people daring enough to be a scary character will want to be Jigsaw.
