Have you seen how well the Yankees have been playing?  If you haven’t, you should definitely start watching since the Yankees are way more entertaining than any other New York team. There were not any flashy signs, but a month into the season, the Yankees find themselves with the best record in baseball and a roster that outperforms every other team. They recently came off of a 11 game winning streak in which they lost to the Toronto Blue Jays. This was one of their biggest winnings streaks in a long time.

As of May 8, 2022, the Yankees were 20-8 which is the best record in the Al East League. On Mothers day, I was fortunate enough to go to their game against the Texas Rangers where it was a double header for the Mets and the Yankees. There was supposed to be a game on that Friday, but it got canceled due to weather. The game was moved to Sunday. All ticket holders for that Sunday’s game were also invited to stay for the second game.  During the first game, the Yankees won 2-1 with a walk off homer in the bottom of the 9th by Gleyber Torres. During the second game, about half of the fans left due to it being cold and windy, but of course my family and I stayed! Since the stadium cleared, we moved all the way down and we stayed until Giancarlo Stanton hit a 2-run homer into center field. Unfortunately, the Yankees lost their second game.

On May 9th, Nestor Cortes was so close to throwing a no-hitter, but unfortunately lost it at the top of the 8th inning. Cortes started the game with 7.1 no-hit innings against the Rangers, getting within five outs of the feat, and putting us all on red alert. The no-hitter wouldn’t happen as Eli White broke it up in the eighth inning with a single. However, it was still a marvelous performance. Cortes struck out 11 before getting removed after allowing the hit. Not only did the drama of Nestor’s outing build as he got closer to a no-hitter, it also grew as the Yankees needed him to keep putting up zeroes. The Yankees’ offense continued its recent cold streak, recording just five hits and going 0-for-4 with runners in scoring position. Eventually, they finally pushed across a run and that ended up being enough thanks to the efforts of Cortes and the bullpen. The Yankees beat the Rangers, 1-0.

As of May 23, the Yankees have a record of 29-12 which is still the best record in the Al East. Unfortunately, the Yankees have a few players out including Joey Gallo, Kyle Higashioka, Chad Green and possibly Josh Donaldson. On May 22nd, the Yankees lost both games with a score of 3-1 in the first game and 5-0 in the second game against the White Socks. I do believe that with the record they have now, there is a very good chance that they make it to the World Series. I think a World Series between the Mets and the Yankees would be absolutely amazing even though the tickets would go for a few thousand dollars. Would you want a World Series between the two New York teams?
