East Rockaway took on Island Trees for their homecoming game on October 16th and the Rocks dominated. On the opening kick off, Joe Bruzzo took it 65 yards to the Island Trees 20 yard line. Bruzzo finishes off the drive with a 5 yard touchdown to put the Rocks up 6-0 early. Island Trees is able to respond immediately after a 45 yard touchdown drive capped off by a 25 yard touchdown pass giving them a 7-6 lead. That was about it for Island Trees though, as the Rocks dominated the rest of the game. After a couple stops both ways, highlighted by junior Chase Vertuccio with a fumble recovery and a 4th down sack, the Rocks strike again. Joe Bruzzo punched in his second touchdown of the half and the two point conversion to put the Rocks up for good. In a two-minute drill, senior Aidan Green converts an improbable 4th and 10, embarrassing the entire Island Trees defense. Green rushes in a 1 yard touchdown and John Giannotti gets the two point conversion to put the Rocks up 22-7 at the end of the half. After an impressive 19 play 99 yard, 10 minute drive John Giannotti caps it off with a 2 yard touchdown giving East Rockaway a 28-7 lead heading into the 4th. That’s all East Rockaway needed in this one. Joe Lazazzaro sealed the game with an interception in the 4th. Aidan Green, Joe Bruzzo, and John Giannotti led the rushing attack with 173, 33 and 60 yards respectively. Bruzzo with 2 scores and Giannotti and Green with 1 apiece. With a 28-7 victory the Rocks are now 3-3 on the year trying to make a playoff push.
