The stories whisk me to a world beyond
The moon or sea, the possibilities
Between us, there’s an unbreakable bond
Attachment to them gains them sympathies
They bring me comfort nothing else can match
A place I feel accepted, and not judged
By characters whom I have grown attached
To leave this world with folks filled with begrudge
At night, snug in bed, by the glow of light
Words lift me to Hogwarts or Middle Earth
Pages flutter like a butterfly in flight
I drift on elsewhere guided by true north
But then the pages close, back to the “real” world
Solo, I wait to return to my dream world.
