POV: You’re a Freshman

POV: Youre a Freshman

Paola Rivera, Guest Writer

After experiencing life as a Freshman, my point of view of high school completely changed. Freshman year will probably be a big change for you in life, either in a positive or negative way. Your “friends” will either stick with you or leave you behind. You’ll either make new friends or lose friends. Freshman year could be your peak or your downfall. You never know what to expect.

When it comes to Rock Rivalry, remember that it’s your first year. Have fun performing and planning your play because it’s pretty much guaranteed that you’re not going to win anything, but it’s just the way it is. You have 3 years to learn and to improve before Senior Year. Don’t be hard on yourself since it’s your first time competing. Learn from other grades and from your mistakes. This will help you so much in the future and will guarantee that your class will win the cup for Rock Rivalry in the upcoming years. Everything counts now. All of your grades, your behavior, and your reputation matters. Your high school transcript is very important since that’s what colleges will be looking at when you apply. Don’t think that your grades aren’t important because you’re just in 9th grade. Everything from 9th-12th grade will count. My 9th grade teachers are very nice and understanding, but you will definitely feel a change from 8th to 9th grade classwork and homework. If you miss one of your classes, you will most likely miss on work that you were supposed to do and now it becomes homework.  Always think before you act and be aware of what you’re saying around people. Trust me, it will matter.

If I had to use one word to describe my school year it would be ‘interesting’. Things happened that I never thought would happen. I was expecting schoolwork to be extremely hard, but it wasn’t. You will feel a change from middle school to high school, but you get through it. You will meet amazing people and teachers that will help you get through the year, you will have a lot of fun during Rock Rivalry. Freshman year was surely an experience.
