Life With a Dog

Although they are cuddly and adorable, dogs are hard work.  After having a Yorkie for a year, I understand why my parents said “No!” to getting a puppy in the first place.  Training the dog is the hardest part, but once the puppy is trained it is easier for everyone.  My puppy, Noel, only wants attention and has a hard time listening.  She is crazy and hyper all the time.  We used to have her sleep upstairs, but that was too much for my parents.  She now sleeps alone in her pen downstairs.  At first, she cried through the night since she was not used to it. But now she loves seeing us in the morning when we come down the stairs and it is much more convenient for my family.

After having her for a year, my family has learned Noel’s likes and dislikes.  She likes carrots and apples, but doesn’t like peanut butter.  She likes snuggling with us only in blankets and will move away if we pet her too much.  When she gets scared she will go in her crate and will only come out if everyone is calm.  Noel loves jumping at the television when we watch an action movie or intense show.  My favorite part of the day is when I come home from school and she is running around excited to see me.  Although she distracts me sometimes, she also makes me stay focused and I get my work done more quickly so that I can spend time with her.
