My love for all things horror probably started when my Mother showed me my very first horror movie in 6th grade, Halloween, an underlying classic horror movie and my mothers favorite. Ever since then I have been obsessed with anything horror-related (games, shows, etc.). I’ve seen many horror movies and since Halloween is right around the corner, I wanted to propose an article on my personal 5 favorite horror films, while still hopefully remaining in the PG/PG-13 range at most.

No.5: Carrie (2013 Remake)

When it comes to remakes, I’m skeptical on how far it will stray from the original. Shockingly enough I saw the 2013 remake before the 1976 original. Carrie follows a senior in high school who is constantly bullied by her peers (mostly for her strict religious mother). In this version technology plays a huge part with how Carrie is bullied and others find out about it. Carrie finds out that she actually has telekinetic powers and how it apparently ran in her family but passed her mother. Prom comes and she is elected Prom Queen, she didn’t know any better and was very excited only for her night to get ruined and she got pig blood dumped on her. This was her breaking point and caused a major, graphic torture/death scene with her powers and those who bullied her. I’ve seen this movie so many times but I never get bored with it. I definitely prefer this version over the 1976 version.

No.4: Blair Witch (2016)

If remakes weren’t skeptical enough, sequels definitely are, many get a bad rep but this might be the best sequel I’ve ever seen. Blair Witch follows the original with being a “found film movie”. Five young adults are in Black Hills Forest looking for another film student who went missing, “Heather”, who is the main girl in the original. This movie is more graphic than the original which I prefer from the other two. While this movie gets put in top 5, the second film in this franchise, Book of Shadows: Blair Witch, would get put in my least favorite horror movies.

No.3: Final Destination (Whole Franchise)(2000-2011)

Final Destination was a franchise I got introduced to shockingly only last year around this time. After seeing the third one first (since it was on TV) I binged the whole franchise (5 movies) and I was pretty impressed. The franchise follows “death follows you until it’s too late” and “You can’t cheat death” (meaning you cannot escape it). Personally my favorite might be the third but I enjoy the franchise. There has been some speculation about there being a new one soon. If it comes out I will definitely buy tickets to see it, but I hope it won’t be a disappointment.

No.2 Hostel (Trilogy)(2006-2011)

This was a really close tie with first place. I was introduced to this trilogy just last year. I watched the third one first but watched the first two after. It was probably one of the best horror movie trilogies I have ever seen. It’s extremely well done with an unexpected twist in the third one. When a movie makes my stomach do the flips from how certain things are executed I absolutely love it. I’ve heard rumors on how a fourth one will come out although I don’t think it’s true, I would see it in a heartbeat.

No.1 Saw (1-7)(2004-2009)

It was just a few months ago I was introduced to this franchise and it still shocks me how I didn’t know about this franchise sooner. It’s probably one of the most well-known franchises in the horror industry and takes the cake with all the fun stuff I cannot write in this article because it will get taken out. This franchise is definitely not one for those with weak stomachs or ones who are squeamish. The first movie takes a slow approach but by each movie they just take it all the way up. Most shockingly aren’t a fan of SAW 3D, but it might be one of my favorites. The third is a close second for my favorite. I even created Pixel Characters for my Design class over the summer. I think this is an amazing franchise and there is word of another movie in the makes. I am beyond excited but hope it’s not like the last 2. They don’t make it to my list because they are the absolute worst, they don’t match the same theme or settings as the first 7. I hope they have Mark Hoffman in the new one if there is any- he’s kinda😍😍😍
