Sara Perrone, Advisor

Here at The Gull, we’ve had quite the exciting year. From those first masked, super sanitized days of school in September, we knew we had a unique opportunity. With fewer afterschool activities and sports running due to the pandemic, more and more students were looking for a way to get involved in a Covid-friendly manner. Our advisors reached out to students with varying interests, backgrounds, and levels of writing experience to grow our staff and make the most out of a tough situation.

As a result, The Gull is proud to announce that we published over 200 articles during the 2020-2021 school year (up from approximately 40 during the previous school year), and our staff grew by over 15 students. Our officers took over meetings, asking relevant questions, teaching about the importance of citing sources, bringing in outside resources, and completing turnkey activities based on seminars and trips they made. We had serious conversations about the role of the media in our current world and what it means to publish responsible journalism.

We wanted to take the time to thank our readers and wish everyone in the ER community a wonderful summer vacation. Thank you for your readership, your feedback, and support. May the summer of 2021 be filled with the best of memories. And, as always:
