Different Blood Types and Covid-19

Madelyn Miel, Staff Writer

As the year comes to a close, we have learned so much about COVID-19 since the start of the outbreak. On our last day of normalcy before quarantine hit, we barely knew anything. Scientists are working hard every day to develop and distribute a vaccine, all while trying to combat misinformation spreading like wildfire all over the internet.

One thing scientists are studying with COVID-19 is blood, including the detection of antibodies. They are also finding a possibility that your blood type can affect the risk of severe COVID-19. Even though this information is still in the early stages, there are plenty of people making claims about blood type and Covid-19. Let’s break it down by each blood type. The blood types there are include types, A+, A-,B+,B-,O+,O-,AB+ and AB-.

On October 14th, 2020, a study published in Denmark has shown that blood type O has a significant advantage in this mess of a pandemic. The study purports that the group of blood type O has a decreased risk of getting COVID-19. As many scientists are doing these studies, many see a common pattern of blood type O has a lessened risk, while blood type A is more at risk of getting COVID-19.

Science is a constantly moving field where you learn new information every day, so some of this information may have been updated! The sources will be listed as 1,2, and 3! The sources update, so if you want to check it out after they are there!
