Did you know that it is estimated that in 11 years climate change will be irreversible? Did you know that temperatures are rising and will continue to rise or that glaciers are melting, causing higher sea levels? Many kids and teens around the world are taking a stand and protesting around the world. On Friday, September 20, 2019, 16-year-old Greta Thunberg, who inspired many of the protests, led a strike in New York City which many Elementary, Middle, and High School students attended. Many city public school students took part in the protest. “What is the point of educating ourselves and learning the facts when the people in power refuse to listen to the educated and pay attention to the facts,” stated Greta Thunberg. The crowd totaled about 60,000 protesters. Many young people held up signs saying things like, “There is no plan(et) B,” and “The sea levels are rising and so are we!” They have been protesting the fact that too little has been done to save the planet, and no one did anything about it. “Change is coming whether we like it or not,” said Greta Thunberg, “Do you think they hear us?” It was one of the biggest climate protests in history. It shows that any one person who is willing to make a stand for something he/she believes in can make a difference in this world. Even you.
