Soul

The movie Soul came out on Disney+ a little less than a month ago on Christmas day. This animated film takes place in New York City in the eyes of the main character, Joe Gardner. Joe is a very passionate middle school band teacher who tries to dig deep into his students’ hearts to help them find their passion for music. Although they aren’t the great philharmonic, he wants nothing but happiness for his students and to help them embrace their musical abilities. Joe suddenly gets the chance of a lifetime to play at the absolute best jazz club in town. While on his way, he takes one small misstep that brings him into “The Great Before”. It is a mystical place where all of the new little souls live before they get to go to Earth. To get to Earth, these souls need to find their interests, personalities, and quirks. Joe is teamed up with one of the most suborn souls, named “22”, in hopes to help her get her pass to earth. As Joe works with 22, he tries to show her all of the amazing things that Earth has to offer, but on the way, he seems to question himself about Earth’s true blessings.
The movie Soul is nothing short of beautiful. The animation is gorgeous and is something I’ve never seen before. With me being a musical person, I could truly understand Joe’s passion and excitement for music and performing. This movie shows a lot about the true reality and meaning of life. 22 is the version of most humans. This character is confused about what life is all about. 22 is stubborn about life. This movie was beautifully written and produced. Even as a 17-year-old, it brought tears to my eyes. I would recommend this movie to anyone. This is the type of movie any audience, old or young, can enjoy and relate to. The little souls that float around are absolutely adorable. The storyline brings surprise after surprise to the audience. It takes you through the ups and downs of life that every single one of us experiences. The moments where you are so sad, you break down, or the moments you are so happy and you want to breakdance. This movie has so much to offer and I recommend it for anyone wanting to sit down and watch a good movie.
