A new mystery metal monolith has appeared on top of a California mountain just a week after a similar structure was discovered in the deserts of Utah before being taken down and then disappearing. In California, a local newspaper (Atascadero) reported the sightings found by hikers on Pine Mountain. Dozens of hikers went to go see it after it went viral. “The three-sided obelisk appeared to be made of stainless steel, 10-feet tall and 18 inches wide. The object was welded together at each corner, with rivets attaching the side panels to a likely steel frame inside,” the Atascadero News reported.

The Monolith in Utah was sturdy and set into the mountain, almost impossible to move around. Unlike Utah’s, Atascadero’s Monolith was “wobbly” and the newspaper reported that humans might be able to push over. The Utah monolith was spotted on November 18th by a helicopter crew working on a separate job. The object was 11ft tall and made out of stainless steel. These Monoliths have caused many speculations and theories around the world as to where they came from. The “creator(s)” of them are yet to be discovered, as well as the identity of its “destroyers” after eyewitnesses captured its removal last Friday night by a group of four men who reportedly “walked off with the pieces” with one of them saying, “Leave no trace,” according to The New York Times.

Interestingly, the Utah and Atascadero monoliths aren’t the only ones spotted. Recently a new monolith has been discovered in Romania. A structure that appears to be identical to the one in the Utah desert was found on Batca Doamnei Hill in Romania on Nov. 26, according to “The Mirror”. Four days later after the reporting of that monolith, it disappeared. “The 2.8 meter (9ft) tall structure disappeared overnight as quietly as it was erected last week,” journalist Robert Iosub of the Ziar Piatra Neamt local newspaper told Reuters. “An unidentified person, apparently a bad local welder, made it … now all that remains is just a small hole covered by rocky soil.”

As all these recent discoveries start to unfold people are left with nothing other than to come up with their own theories on what these can be. Is it just a prank? Aliens? A test?…we might never know.
