New York City Ring’s in the New Year

Erin Lynch, Staff Writer

5, 4, 3 ,2, 1… Happy New Year! Thousands of people every year gather in Times Square in New York City to see the annual ball drop. The ball is 12 feet in diameter and is covered in many different crystals and lights to make it shine as we go into the new year.

Times Square is where the celebration takes place every year. There are performances by many different musical artists, and everyone stays up until midnight to say goodbye to 2019 and to welcome in the New Year.

With party blowers and confetti, everyone dresses in festive colors and makes as much noise as possible once the ball drops. I personally look forward to banging pots and pans, blowing party blowers, fireworks, and confetti poppers to celebrate. This is a very special New Year’s celebration because it marks the end of the decade.

New Year’s Day is a big celebration that is fun for everyone. December 31st is a night filled with music, fireworks, and celebration of the New Year!
