Celebrating St. Patrick’s Day

As you know, St. Patrick’s Day is on March 17th.  St. Patrick’s Day is about a Saint from Ireland.  In a video I once saw, St. Patrick was holding a shamrock and he said the green leaves represented the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.  The holiday has evolved into traditions like parades, special food, dancing, gold, and a lot of green.

Since my dad is Irish, I will share some of my family’s traditions with you.  My grandma started these traditions with her family and now my family will pass down these traditions. One tradition we love is going to the annual parade, but unfortunately we can’t go this year due to the pandemic.  There are more traditions more appropriate for this year.

If there is one thing I love about St. Patrick’s Day, it’s the food.  There’s Irish soda bread, corned beef, and cabbage.  They’re all delicious!  My aunt makes the best Irish soda bread and has special Irish butter that tastes amazing.  My dad always makes corned beef and cabbage for my family.  Sometimes my grandma and aunt come over to eat with us.  Unfortunately, we can’t do that this year, but there are other traditions that can still happen.

My sister started watching Luck of the Irish ever since it appeared on Disney Now which is an old version of Disney+.  The tradition grew and now my two brothers and I watch it together.  We will also watch my grandma’s favorite movie, Brooklyn.  Although this year will be different, the movies will always stay the same.

I can’t wait for Wednesday, March 17th when my family and I can celebrate one of our favorite holidays.  Even if you aren’t Irish or don’t go all out for the holiday, you can still watch these movies and eat these delicious foods.
