A Broadway classic hits the stage of East Rockaway High School once again, with the Tony Award winning musical comedy, Bye Bye Birdie!!

On February 1st and 2nd, the Harry W. Bunting Auditorium was alive and jumping with amazing performances from our very own East Rockaway students from all three district schools.  Set in the era of sock hops and evolving rock n’ roll music of the 1950’s, Bye Bye Birdie takes place in middle America, where a famous rock n’ roll singer is getting ready to be drafted into the service, but must first perform a farewell television appearance and kiss his biggest fan goodbye.  This inspired story is loosely based on the real life events of rock n’ roll legend Elvis Presley, who was actually drafted in 1957 into the United States Army and then was stationed in Germany.  The performances included a wide variety of songs and dance routines, accompanied by a very talented music pit consisting of many different instruments, conducted by Mr. Peter Ceglio.  Every actor, musician, and teacher, along with advisors, dedicated endless hours and hard work for months in advance in preparation for this one weekend only, three performances, all sold out shows. Once again, East Rockaway does not disappoint! I am looking forward to another fantastic show next year and can not wait to see what will be selected next!
